Claire Potter

Claire Potter is an artist writer from Merseyside. Through published text, live performance and audio works, Claire addresses modes of reading and speaking bringing liveness, narrative and cadence to the attention of audiences. She is the author of experimental fiction Mental Furniture (VerySmallKitchen, 2014), extracts of which are recorded as Mother To No Swimming Laughing Child (FortEvilFruit, 2015) in collaboration with musician Bridget Hayden. Claire organises Shady Dealings With Language, an interdisciplinary event series for art writing and performance in the UK.

In reference to Andre Tarkovsky’s 1979 film Stalker, Claire Potter’s newly commissioned performance video Cast Metal Nut (2016) re-stages the contemporary figure of the lad as a dramatic being. Potter’s lad is constituted by an external script. In woodland scenes contrasting with Tarkovsky’s Zone of innermost desire, Potter’s figure waits, without drive, in a landscape where action never arrives.
